Air quality

Air quality
Various surveys show that the inhabitants of Brussels are aware of what reducing air pollution entails in terms of mobility and consumption.

The concentration of pollutants in the ambient air in real time (FR/NL) can be checked on the Bruxelles Environnement Qualité de l'Air website. All data is provided by the Brussels-Capital Region’s telemetry network.

What to do during peak pollution

When the concentration of dangerous pollutants in the air reaches a certain value, emergency procedures must be launched by the Region’s authorities. The procedures during peak pollution (FR/NL) for private individuals, businesses, industry and transport companies are also published on the Qualité de l'Air website.

Low Emission Zone: for the health of all residents in Brussels

Since 1 January 2018, the permanent LEZ has been in force across the territory of the 19 Brussels communes.

LEZ stands for "Low Emission Zone". The term is used to designate where polluting vehicles are not allowed to drive in a given city, or areas of that city. It is one of the measures taken in numerous European cities to improve air quality and consequently public health.

The introduction of the Low Emission Zone in the Brussels-Capital Region will be an evolutive process. LEZ applies every day of the week, 24/7.

The introduction of the LEZ is a project in which various authorities are involved, specifically Brussels Environment, Brussels Mobility, the Brussels Regional Informatics Centre, Brussels Prevention and Security and  Brussels Fiscality.
