Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, actions to improve air quality
Air quality data collection is now a concrete reality in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre thanks to a partnership with AirScan, which has seen the installation of four eco-responsible sensors strategically placed at key locations such as Place des Maïeurs, the Franciscain and Éperviers crossroads, Sportcity and Place Dumon. These locations were chosen as a result of their high footfall and the presence of schools, shops and sports facilities.
The collected data allows an in-depth analysis of air quality trends in the different districts of the municipality. This precise understanding of the situation helps the municipality to plan targeted actions aimed at maintaining a breathable environment for residents.
However, the special feature of this project is the ingenious use of the advertising screens already present in the municipality. In collaboration with ClearChannel, the municipality broadcasts user-friendly air quality indicators on these panels in real time, providing citizens with crucial information for adapting their travel and behaviour.
This investment in improving air quality is just one aspect of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre's wider Smart City approach. By showing that technological innovation can not only inform but also significantly improve the daily lives of its citizens, the municipality is paving the way for a promising future for smart cities.
