What does the job involve?
As a fire officer, you’re responsible for leading a team in the field during emergency interventions. These range from fires to road accidents, urgent medical assistance and incidents involving hazardous materials.
But the role goes further: you’re also involved in training, planning, operational procedures, risk analysis, collaboration with partner services, post‑incident reports, and more.

This role – also open to women?
Of course! The only thing that matters is having the right qualities. We already have several female fire officers in our corps.
Our fire stations are continuously modernised and equipped with women’s facilities (separate bedrooms, changing rooms, restrooms, lactation spaces, etc.). Pregnant female firefighters may receive temporary adjustments to work tasks and schedules. The work-life balance is strong: after every 24-hour shift, you get three days off.
What are the benefits?
We offer a statutory role with a salary aligned with pay scale A151 of the Brussels-Capital Region.

Requirements:
- At least 18 years old
- Belgian citizenship or national of the European Economic Area or Switzerland
- Category B driving licence
- Federal Aptitude Certificate (FGA) obtained
- University degree or equivalent

1. Federal Aptitude Certificate

2. Information sessions
We begin with a presentation covering all aspects of the job, the selection procedure, and the various tests. Your attendance is mandatory.
Our tests vary from one recruitment campaign to the next. Below is an overview of the tests used during the most recent selection. Details may change in future campaigns.
3. Cognitive tests
These tests evaluate your reasoning abilities in technical situations and your mathematical and scientific knowledge at the level of a civil engineering entrance exam.
4. Physical tests
There are four physical fitness tests, spread over three different days:
- Running race (track)
- Swimming test (pool)
- Agility course (gym)
- Stress resistance in a confined space

5. Personality test and interview
As a first responder, you work with people every day. The right mindset is therefore essential. We assess this through a personality test and an interview to evaluate your qualities and motivation.
6. Internship
If you successfully pass all the previous steps, you will be placed in the recruitment reserve. Internship candidates are selected based on their ranking in the test results.
