Harmonised data exchange to secure underground networks
Every year in Brussels, more than 120,000 construction sites are set up underground, where there's a whole network of electrical cables, gas pipes and optical fibres, according to Brussels Mobility. Without accurate and shared data on underground networks, every intervention becomes a potential hazard.
To address this issue, an inter-federal agreement has just been signed by the three Regions and the Federal State. Its objective is to harmonise the exchange of data on underground networks by adopting common technical standards, in particular those developed in Flanders (IMKL and PMKL), which are now recognised nationally as part of the ICEG process.
For the Brussels Region, Paradigm worked to assist with the drafting of the agreement, and also took part in the revision process for the IMKL standard, led by the OSLO team from Digitaal Vlaanderen.
This new framework will enhance site safety, improve coordination of interventions and support urban development by relying on clearer and more interoperable data.
