Digitisation of permits takes a big step forward with MyPermit
MyPermit Urban and MyPermit Environnement are two online platforms developed at the initiative of Urban and Brussels Environnement, in collaboration with Paradigm, for the Brussels-Capital Region to simplify the management of permit applications. They were set up as part of the European recovery plan NextGenerationEU.
- MyPermit Urban, launched in November 2020, allows the submission and follow-up of urban planning permit applications;
- MyPermit Environnement, available since July 2022, offers the same functionalities for environmental permits.
Both are designed to digitise procedures, streamline administrative processing and improve the experience of citizens, professionals and authorities.
The results since the launch show how great the acceptance is. With already 85% of urban planning permit applications and 50% of environmental permit applications submitted online since early 2025, MyPermit is now the main channel. In figures, this means since its launch:
- For MyPermit Urban: almost 19,000 files processed through the platform, for a total of 18,000 users;
- For MyPermit Environnement: more than 1,500 files submitted, 2,200 users.
Over the years, the platforms have gradually become accessible to all. At launch, both platforms were reserved for regional dossiers, for a limited audience. Today, the platforms are used in the 19 Brussels municipalities and are accessible to everyone.
The handling of dossiers is now fully digitised. Since 2024, applications for planning permission can be followed 100% electronically from submission to notification of the decision. MyPermit Environnement will have reached the same level by 2025.
The user experience was simplified, especially thanks to dynamic forms, tools for collaboration with architects and interactive maps. Submitting an application is faster and clearer. All public authorities (region and municipalities) also benefit from the advantages of these platforms thanks to their integration into the "Nova" management tool, the application for processing permit applications. However, the paper option remains to ensure accessibility for all.
In terms of results, users have expressed great satisfaction with using the platform. An online satisfaction survey since October 2024 shows that 82% of respondents rated their experience with MyPermit Environnement with 4 or 5 stars.
With MyPermit, the Brussels Capital Region is committed to a more innovative and digitised administration. The ambition is clear: to simplify administrative procedures by making them more accessible, efficient and collaborative for citizens.
