To manage mobility in neighbourhoods and improve the quality of life for residents.
The ambition is to create the conditions to improve the quality of life and public space. Universal accessibility and road safety for all users are at the heart of this endeavor.

Since the 'Ville 30' initiative came into force, efforts to build public trust have continued on the ground. The Opens in new windowannual review confirms greater compliance with speed limits, which has led to a reduction in fatal and serious accidents and a decrease in noise pollution.

Numerous initiatives aim to create a more balanced use of public space and make it safer and more pleasant. These include School Streets, summer trial projects (like "Brussels on Holiday"), low-traffic neighbourhoods, and the 6 new local car parks made available for nearby residents.

In addition to prioritising quality of life, low-traffic neighbourhoods aim to encourage local and active travel, as well as public transport, while maintaining the area's accessibility.


The Region has many iconic public spaces. The aim is to improve safety, accessibility, and urban vibrancy, as well as the quality of life for residents and visitors. Two projects are currently underway at Place Schuman and Place Royale, with the works being managed by Beliris. As for the low-traffic neighbourhoods, which are established through local mobility contracts between the Region and the Municipalities, 9 are currently under consideration.
