Brussels wants to capitalise more on EU funds
Brussels wants to help its public sector organisations to better capture European projects and funding.
External linkBrussels International supports public sector organisations in Brussels in preparing European projects. The goal is to work together more effectively to take better advantage of opportunities at the European level. In addition to funding, these projects can also be used to test practical and innovative solutions that support the Region’s priorities.
To strengthen this dynamic, Brussels International participated in a European project titled “Enhancing regional access to and performance in EU initiatives and funds”. Four regions joined forces for this project, which is financed by the External linkEuropean Commission through the External linkTechnical Support Instrument: Brussels, Wallonia, Thuringia (Germany) and Silesia (Poland). The project was implemented with the support of the External linkOrganisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
A roadmap for more effective action
After two years of work, the Brussels-Capital Region now has a better overview. The project has helped identify the region’s strengths and the obstacles to its access to European funding. The assessment is the result of extensive consultation with public-sector stakeholders in Brussels. A concrete roadmap was established, with recommendations and actions to better identify European opportunities, respond to them more effectively, and prepare for the next programming period (2028–2034).
In early July, a closing conference at the External linkEuropean Committee of the Regions will bring together regional, national, and European stakeholders to discuss how to help regions mobilise EuropeanUnion financing more effectively.
