Benelux flag flies in Brussels on Benelux Day
To mark Benelux Day on 5 September, we will also be flying the Benelux flag from 4 September. In doing so, the Brussels-Capital Region is emphasising its commitment to partnership within the Benelux.

A partnership with a long history
For decades, the Benelux has provided a unique framework for cooperation between Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. On 5 September 1944, the three countries signed the Benelux Customs Treaty, laying the foundations for closer cooperation. What began as an economic project developed into a unique form of cross-border cooperation that remains relevant to this day. The Benelux is thus a testing ground for European cooperation and further European integration.
Brussels plays an active role in the Benelux
Benelux Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the close ties between the three partner countries and their impact on the daily lives of citizens and businesses. The Brussels-Capital Region actively contributes to this through various networks and initiatives focusing on areas such as mobility, sustainability, the economy and innovation.
As the capital of both Belgium and Europe, Brussels plays a special role in this regard as a meeting place for dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and cross-border cooperation.
