Brussels brings its international expertise together under one roof
Brussels is home to the headquarters of numerous European institutions, diplomatic missions and international organisations. To strengthen support for these bodies, the Commissariat for Europe and International Organisations will soon join Brussels International.
For the institutions, missions and international organisations established here, the Brussels-Capital Region (BCR) is more than just a workplace; it is an anchor point for building networks, monitoring policy and collaborating with Belgian and Brussels partners. This international presence gives the BCR a unique character, which requires effective institutional support.
The Commissariat for Europe and International Organisations, a trusted partner
By maintaining regular contact with European and international organisations, the Commissariat for Europe and International Organisations (CEIO) helps facilitate their presence in Brussels. This is often behind-the-scenes but nonetheless essential work: listening, coordinating, guiding and finding solutions when necessary.
The CEIO exercises a unique mission in the capital of Europe: it pilots and implements the regional headquarters policy on behalf of the Regional Government. The regional headquarters policy is a set of hosting arrangements for supranational and intergovernmental organisations headquartered in Brussels. The CEIO coordinates the respective responsibilities and ensures a coherent and timely response, in line with the challenges of both the host Region and the hosted organisations.
Its "Expat Welcome Desk", which in 2026 celebrates the 35th anniversary of its office at the European Parliament, is the single point of contact for all administrative questions from newcomers and international residents in Brussels.

Strengthening support for international bodies
The convergence of the CEIO and Brussels International is part of the regional policy declaration. By bringing knowledge and expertise together under one roof while maintaining the recognized role of the CEIO, it should make it even easier for institutions, missions and international organisations to benefit from the support they need.
The BCR thus continues to build an international environment where these bodies feel welcome and quickly find their bearings.
