Help with Rental Deposit: Financial Aid for Renters
For many tenants, coming up with the amount for the rental guarantee is a challenge. To address this situation, the Region offers two solutions, both of which are designed to provide quick, practical and accessible assistance to individuals on low incomes, and to do so anonymously in order to combat discrimination.
Low-interest loan from the Housing Fund
Under certain conditions, the Brussels-Capital Region Opens in new windowHousing Fund can offer Opens in new windowzero-interest loans to provide a rental guarantee. The Fund can lend 100% of the required amount.
Provision of the guarantee by the BRU-GAL fund
For people who are unable to repay even a zero-interest loan, the Brussels-Capital Region provides an alternative: the BRU-GAL fund will anonymously deposit the necessary amount for the guarantee into a bank account in the tenant's name.
If the tenant's income allows, they repay a monthly contribution to BRU-GAL (ranging from €5 to €30). If this is not feasible, the tenant can obtain a guarantee from a PCSW (Public Centre for Social Welfare) through BRU-GAL and pay nothing at all. Any contributions made by the tenant will be fully refunded at the end of the lease, minus any amounts owed to BRU-GAL.
