Community Land Trust Brussels (CLTB): an innovative housing model!
Co-ownership and affordable housing
CLTB aims to provide low-income residents in Brussels with sustainable, affordable, quality housing. The association considers the land to be community property. Residents therefore buy their homes, but not the land. The result On average, housing costs 40% less than on the private market.
Collective property management
CLTB encourages residents to take an active part in managing their homes. Before moving in, landlords receive training on home maintenance, joint decision-making, etc. to help them through the process. CLTB also aims to strengthen social cohesion and provides communal spaces for social activities, such as neighbourhood kitchens, within the projects.
An innovative solution to the housing crisis
Other European cities soon showed an interest in CLTB's pioneering work. Other CLTs have been created in Belgium and Europe, with the help of CLTB. CLTB is part of a European network that aims to promote this model worldwide.
Recognised worldwide by UN-Habitat
In 2021, CLTB received the World Habitat Award in recognition of its innovative approach. CLTB has also already received several awards for its work to promote the CLT model in Europe.
Supported by the Brussels-Capital Region
In 2023, CLTB also signed a management contract that defines the Region's financing and sets CLTB's objectives for the coming years, including the creation of 2,000 m² of new housing per year and the guarantee of a transparent housing registration and allocation procedure.
