Brussels Youth Fire Brigade
The Brussels Youth Fire Brigade offers young people a training programme that prepares them step by step for a possible future in the fire brigade.

Firefighter cadet training (ages 16-17)
In collaboration with the Training Centre of the Brussels Fire Brigade (OCBB/CFPB) and the Brussels Red Cross, we will train you through various modules: civic and citizenship, first aid, firefighting, physical preparation...
If you successfully complete the full course, you will receive:
- The federal aptitude certificate – required to apply to the emergency response zones in Belgium [link naar brandweer.be],
- The first responder certificate
- The European first aid certificate (EFAC).
When?
Training runs over a 2.5-year cycle and starts in January each year. Classes take place at the main fire station (Helihavenlaan 11, 1000 Brussels).
Schedule:
- Saturday from 8.30 am to 5pm: general training
- Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm: physical preparation
During exam periods, classes are temporarily suspended.
Requirements
Everyone is welcome! The requirements are simple:
- You are 16 or 17 years old during the training year;
- You are a Belgian citizen or a citizen of the European Economic Area or Switzerland
Fire Security Kids (ages 13-15)
You are between 13 and 15 years old and want to learn about the world of firefighting in a playful way? Then the Brussels Youth Fire Brigade's Fire Security Kids programme is for you!
In this introductory phase, you will learn, among other things:
- Basic first aid,
- Fire prevention,
- Civic spirit and cooperation,
- Physical exercises.
The goal? Making young people aware of their role in society and encouraging them to be active citizens, with a focus on safety – for yourself, your family and your neighbourhood.
Schedule:
- Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm
- Extra activities during weekends or school holidays
Requirements:
- You are 13, 14 or 15 years old during the training year;
- You live or attend school in the Brussels-Capital Region;
- You are motivated and demonstrate good behaviour;
- You are a Belgian citizen or a citizen of the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
Maison des Anciens (ages 18+, former cadet programme)
After completing their training, cadets can remain active within the Youth Fire Brigade through the Maison des Anciens. This allows them to stay in touch with the fire station and remain involved.
Among other things, they can:
- Become an assistant instructor for the cadets,
- Be a monitor for the Fire Security Kids,
- Take part in BYFB events,
- Renew their sports certificate,
- Receive guidance on their future professional career.
