About the Region
The inhabitants of Brussels elected their first regional representatives on 18 June 1989. The Brussels-Capital Region became an autonomous Region, just like the Flemish and the Walloon Regions.
Through its institutions and its inhabitants, asserts its unique personality: a territory in which speakers of French and Dutch live together, alongside nationals of many other countries.
