Housing contract

The housing contract is an instrument for implementing a coordinated housing policy between municipalities and the Region.

Although housing policy is primarily defined at regional level, most of it is implemented within the Brussels municipalities. Therefore, close collaboration between the Region and the municipalities is essential if regional objectives are to be successfully achieved.

To tackle the housing crisis, housing contracts are signed with the municipalities. These contracts set out the missions and commit the necessary resources to implement actions

Some of the missions included are: promoting the construction of social housing within the municipality, combating unoccupied and/or substandard housing, implementing a coordinated public land management policy and enhancing social interaction in municipal and PCSW housing.

16 municipalities have already signed a housing contract with the Region: Anderlecht, Auderghem, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Brussels, Etterbeek, Evere, Forest, Ganshoren, Ixelles, Jette, Koekelberg, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Saint-Gilles, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Schaerbeek and Uccle.
