Gas & electricity when moving
Moving involves changing gas and electricity users, making it crucial to consider these services when changing addresses. Reading meters at both old and new addresses prevents issues, such as paying for previous tenants' consumption, and managing energy documents becomes a necessary reflex.

A move is a sensitive time in a consumer's life, as it involves a change of user at a gas and electricity supply point. To avoid a lot of worry, thinking about gas and electricity is just as important as taking other steps related to your change of address. It must become a reflex and the energy recovery document a familiar document to any consumer.
It is important to read the meters at your old and new addresses. This will save you a lot of worry and unpleasant surprises, such as paying for the consumption of a previous tenant!
When you leave your old address:
- Complete two copies of the energy recovery document (one for yourself, the other for the new tenant or the landlord).
- Both documents must be signed by you and the new occupant (the new tenant or landlord).
- Contact the electricity and/or natural gas supplier at your old address no later than seven days after your move so that they can issue a closing bill.
- If you wish to keep the same supply contract, it will continue at your new address without exception (call your supplier for more details).
- If you want to change supplier, you must sign a new supply contract for your new address (contact your new supplier, who will help you with this).
When you arrive at your new home:
- Complete two copies of the energy recovery document (one for yourself, the other for the previous tenant or the landlord).
- Both documents must be signed by you and the new occupant (the previous tenant or landlord).
- Contact the electricity and/or natural gas supplier at your old address no later than seven days after your move so that they can issue a closing bill.
- If you want, your supply contract at your old address will continue at your new address, without exception (call your supplier for more details).
- If you have chosen a new supplier, make sure you have signed a contract with them that takes effect on the date you move in.
- If you do not yet have an energy supplier, you must sign a contract with a supplier of your choice.
