Rules for the be.brussels photography competition - autumn 2023
Art. 1 WHO IS ORGANISING THE COMPETITION?
The photography competition is being organised by Paradigm (21 Avenue des Arts, B-1000 Brussels) and more specifically by the Communication Department. Entering the competition implies full acceptance of the "be.brussels" photography competition rules and all decisions relating thereto. No correspondence or discussions will be entered into regarding the rules, organisation and/or results of the competition. The Communication Department may make changes to the rules at any time, by simple notification on the be.brussels website.
Art. 2 WHO CAN ENTER THE COMPETITION?
The competition is open to anyone aged over 18 living in the Brussels Capital Region.
Art. 3 THE TOPIC OF THE COMPETITION
Anyone who wishes to enter the competition may send in their own photograph of the Brussels Region. Photographs taken for this competition must be suitable for use in be.brussels communication.
Art. 4 HOW TO ENTER
It is free to enter the competition. You can send in your photographs from 18 October to 14 December 2023 All photographs should be sent to rws.communication@paradigm.brussels no later than 14 December 2023. The subject of your email should be "be.brussels photography competition".
For entries to be valid, each photograph must be accompanied by the following information in the email sent: the first name, surname and email address of the photographer, as well as any title, the date and the location of the photo. Each participant can send from 1 to a maximum of 4 photographs. Only colour photographs will be accepted.
You must also complete the document "External linkConsent for the taking and use of images".
Entry is exclusively via the email address rws.communication@paradigm.brussels.
Digital photographs must be in horizontal format. They should be sent in .jpg, .jpeg or .png format of sufficient quality (min. 300 KB - max. 4MB) with no mention of the date and no inscription on the photograph. The entrant undertakes to make the original digital format of the entry images available for use. The name of each file should include the initial of the first name and the surname of the entrant and the number of the photograph (e.g. JDupont01, JDupont02). Photographs may be accompanied by a title, but this is not a condition for entering the competition. Entrants are responsible for all costs related to the competition.
Art. 5 COMPOSITION OF THE JURY
The jury will be made up of members of Paradigm's Communication Department.
Art. 6 SELECTION PROCEDURE
The two photographs judged best will win the competition. The jury's decision will be irrevocable: it cannot be contested under any circumstances, nor can it be the subject of correspondence in any form whatsoever. In the assessment, the jury will pay particular attention to the image's impact, composition and originality. The people whose photographs have been selected will be personally informed by the Communication Department. The winners will be announced in early November 2023 on the be.brussels website and its social networks.
Art. 7 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION?
The two photographs selected by the jury will be used as a top banner on the home page of the be.brussels portal, as well as on the "About the Region" home page, from November 2023 for an indefinite period. The platform administrators reserve the right to replace these photographs without notice.
Art. 8 RIGHTS AND PUBLICATION
By sending in their photographs, candidates declare that:
- they hold all rights to the photograph sent;
- they have obtained the authorisation of the persons appearing in the photographs and/or the owners of the objects or goods photographed, both for the taking of the photograph and for entering the competition;
- the photographs are also the work of the photographer him/herself. The copyright on the photographs is transferred to Paradigm free of charge, both during and after the competition, thereby allowing Paradigm to use them freely. Assignment of copyright is a condition of entering this competition.
Art. 9 HOW TO GET IN TOUCH WITH US
If you come up against any problems sending your photographs, please send an e-mail to rws.communication@paradigm.brussels. Always mention "be.brussels photography competition" in the subject line. No correspondence or discussions will be held regarding the rules, organisation and/or results of the competition.
Art. 10 DISCLAIMER
By entering the competition, entrants accept all the rules, as well as any amendments or decisions that the organisers may take due to unforeseen circumstances. Photographs and materials sent in will not be returned and will become the property of Paradigm.
Shocking photographs or photographs of people who have not authorised their publication will not be accepted. Photographs of a commercial or discriminatory nature will not be accepted. This is by no means an exhaustive list. The rejection of photographs is not subject to appeal, does not need to be justified, and no correspondence will be entered into in this regard. If the photograph is published, Paradigm cannot be held responsible for any claims or complaints from persons appearing in the photographs. This is the responsibility of the entrant. Any attempt at fraud will result in the immediate exclusion of the entrant.
By simply entering the competition, entrants automatically and irrevocably authorise the publication of their name and photograph, as well as their identification as a competition entrant, and waive all rights in this regard. The organisers reserve the right to amend, postpone, shorten or cancel the competition or any part thereof if circumstances so require. Paradigm cannot be held responsible for any changes to or the cancellation of the photography competition due to force majeure.
Art. 11 Privacy policy applicable to the processing of photos as part of the competition
Aware of the importance of data confidentiality, Paradigm is deeply committed to the protection of personal data. The purpose of this data protection notice is to inform you of the commitments and measures we have taken to ensure the protection of your personal data.
Data collected
We take care to collect only the data that is strictly necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used. Specifically, the data processed will be: the photo, the first name and surname name of the person photographed and their email address.

Data processing is carried out for explicit, legitimate and specific purposes. Your data is processed for the following purposes: The be.brussels photography competition.
User information
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Paradigm hereby informs you about how it processes personal data. Paradigm therefore informs you of:
• the purpose of the processing for which the data is intended. Personal data (first name, surname and email address) will be kept by Paradigm in order to contact the competition winner.
• your right to access, query, modify and rectify information concerning you, your right to object on legitimate grounds, and the retention period for the categories of data processed.
Data recipient
The recipient of your personal data is Paradigm's Communication Department.
International data transfer
The publication of your photo on Paradigm's social networks such as LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook, assumes the international transfer of the photo outside the European Economic Area.
Both Microsoft Corporation (LinkedIn) and Meta (Facebook, Instagram) are organisations that certify an adequate level of protection in line with the new requirements set out by the Commission in its new adequacy decision with the United States.
Data retention
Paradigm will only keep your personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and in compliance with current regulations.
The photo and other data of anyone who has not won that is processed as part of this competition will be deleted once the competition is closed.
Security
Paradigm ensures the security of personal data by setting up a data protection system reinforced by the use of secure physical and computer resources.
Your rights
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to access, question, modify and rectify information concerning you. You also have the right to object to the processing of your personal data for legitimate reasons.
