In study

Redevelopment of two squares on avenue Broustin.

In 2021, Brussels Mobility, in collaboration with the municipality of Ganshoren, has decided to install modal filters as part of a new traffic plan on Avenue Broustin. The objectives were to improve road safety and reduce through-traffic on Avenue Broustin. Traffic counts will be carried out between 2021 and 2023 to analyse traffic trends.

After the test

A study for the redevelopment of four areas of Avenue Broustin was carried out in 2023 - 2024. The project concerns the two new squares created by closing the ends of Avenue Broustin to car traffic, at the level of the Basilica and Avenue de Jette, as well as the junctions between Avenue Broustin, Avenue de la Constitution and Rue Vanderborght. The aim is to make the area safer, calmer and better for the public. This study was the subject of a participatory process.

Planned improvements

The creation of public spaces will include ground-level landscaping and the possibility of extending the Horeca terraces. A statue of Annie Cordy, fountains and works of art will be installed on the Basilica side of the square.
The road junctions will be made safer and the surrounding public space improved, with the central promenade enhanced. These works will respect the ‘Besmes layout’, an important architectural heritage.
It should be noted that only the squares and crossroads will be redeveloped. There will therefore be no complete redevelopment of the avenue.
