Boulevard Lambermont

In execution

The redesign of the Wahis and Lambermont boulevards will make the temporary cycle lanes permanent, improve road safety and enhance the quality of the public space.

The number of lanes between Avenue Léopold III and Rue Max Roos will be reduced to two. On the side of the even-numbered houses, this will free up space for a side lane with a pavement, a two-way cycle track/street, parking spaces and a green strip separating this side lane from the main lane.

Cyclists will be provided with separate, high-quality two-way cycle facilities that link up with the various regional cycle routes along the road. Depending on the section of road, there will be a separate cycle lane or a cycle street. Between avenue Léopold III and avenue des Jardins, between avenue des Capucines and avenue des Glycines, and between rue Guillaume Kennis and avenue Albert Desenfans, there will be a two-way cycle lane. On all other sections of the road, a cycle lane will be provided. There will also be 118 parking spaces for bicycles and 16 dropzones for shared vehicles, with one every 200 metres.

More meeting places, more road safety

Pedestrians will have a completely redesigned pavement that is clearly demarcated from the side lane. Traffic islands and wider pavements will enable them to cross safely. At the same time, the area will be made accessible to people with reduced mobility, and road safety will be improved in two accident-prone areas: the junction between boulevard Lambermont and rue Max Roos, and the junction between avenues Demolder and Sleeckx.

The district is served by numerous tram and bus lines. To increase comfort and improve traffic flow, a number of changes are planned. In particular, there will be a new stop on boulevard Lambermont, at number 314. This will replace the existing Louis Bertrand and Latinis stops. It will accommodate longer, wider buses and will be accessible to people with reduced mobility.

To discourage through-traffic in the neighbourhoods, right-hand turns from the main road will be restricted. This will only be possible towards Avenue des Glycines, Chaussée de Haecht and Avenue Demolder. Local traffic will be able to reach its destination via the cycle lane.

Finally, the public space will be embellished. The lawn between rue Guillaume Kennis and avenue Britsiers will be transformed into a rain garden and meeting place. The street lighting will also be renewed.
