Avenue de Tervueren

In study

The Brussels Region's ambition is to redevelop the Avenue de Tervueren, between the Parc du Cinquantenaire and the Square Léopold II, into a pleasant contemporary urban boulevard.

The objectives are to improve road safety, ensure traffic flow, fill in the missing link in terms of cycle paths on this section, and distribute public space in a balanced way between the various road users.

  • Redevelopment of the ‘Porte de Tervueren’ intersection: Removal of the roundabout and construction of a dynamically controlled T-junction with the neighbouring Merode intersection. Reversal of the location of the cycle path and south bus stops between Cinquantenaire and Merode, thereby reducing conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Upgrading of the road: creation of two new rows of trees, one-way and two-way cycle paths, widening of the pavements on the south side, installation of 4 pedestrian crossings with traffic lights and dynamic management of incoming and outgoing traffic, optimisation of the parking area, car traffic on the central section with 2x2 lanes separated by a densely planted verge.
  • Redevelopment of the Montgomery roundabout: maintenance of 3 lanes for cars on the roundabout, large buffer space for the annular cycle path, creation of a pedestrian ring, coordination with the future entrances to Montgomery metro station, improved traffic flow by closing certain entrances and exits and removing the traffic lights.
