By public transport
Making public transport more attractive remains the Brussels Government’s main priority. The Brussels-Capital Region runs a comprehensive public transport network, comprising trains, trams, buses and the metro. You are always sure of reaching your destination by one or more of these modes, perhaps in combination with the bike. Often quicker than if you had taken the car!
The Brussels public transport network is managed by four different companies:
- External linkSTIB (Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles) is responsible for the tram, bus and metro network in Brussels.
- External linkSNCB (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Belges) runs train services between Brussels stations over its rail network .
- External linkDe Lijn (the public transport operator in Flanders) runs bus services between Brussels and neighbouring towns and municipalities in Flanders, with numerous stops throughout Brussels.
- And External linkTEC (public transport operator in Wallonia) runs bus services between Brussels and neighbouring destinations in Wallonia.
Visit the individual websites for timetables and information on prices and facilities. In the interests of users, on all of these sites you can search for the best route at the best price taking account of the services of all operators.
External linkInformation on Brussels public transport is also available on the website Bruxelles Mobilité.
At night in Brussels, the sparks from the trams can be seen from afar, like lightning when the hay is cut. And the Place de Brouckère, with its neon snakes, inscribes the name of Brussels red in the sky, on the clouds.
