Regional Mobility Plan

The Brussels-Capital Region's Regional Mobility Plan was approved by the Brussels government in 2020. It sets out the key strategic directions and provides a framework for the main public actions in the field of mobility.

The plan

This plan is in line with the regional objectives to improve the quality of life for the people of Brussels, while also supporting the demographic and economic development of the Brussels-Capital Region. It is the result of a wide-ranging participatory process involving all Brussels stakeholders: mobility and institutional partners, the municipalities, the business and voluntary sectors, as well as citizens. This participatory process was spread over a period of four years.

Continuous assessment

Progress towards the objectives and the implementation level of the plan's actions are subject to ongoing evaluation.

Partners

Various regional and municipal bodies contribute to the implementation of the plan's actions.

This is why the plan's actions are incorporated into the management contracts of public operators, and why constructive partnerships between the Region and local councils are essential.

To guide developments that impact travel and to better account for different uses, the Government is developing and approving multimodal road specialisation maps. These maps help to clarify the importance of ensuring suitable networks for each mode of transport and are produced in consultation with the local councils.

Furthermore, the Region publishes various technical guides on public space planning.
