Getting your driving licence

You need a driving licence to use a vehicle on the public highway.

Excessively long waiting times for booking practical driving tests – solutions put in place

Many of you queued for hours on the first day of the month outside the Anderlecht (SA) test centre to book an appointment for your practical driving test.

Brussels Mobility has worked with the test centre to adapt procedures and resolve this issue.

In practical terms: the booking system, which until now was open once a month (on the first day of the month), will now be open daily (for the following two months), with new dates added regularly.

Example: if you visit on 15 May, the booking system will be open until 15 July, with new dates added regularly.

It is still, at present, mandatory to attend in person to book an appointment. This to prevent fraud and to verify that the candidate possesses all the necessary documents.

HOWEVER, the administration is currently working on developing a platform which, by the end of 2026, will allow all these procedures to be carried out online.

You can obtain this licence by passing exams organised by the Brussels-Capital Region at two exam centres: Anderlecht and Schaerbeek.

You must hold a driving licence to drive a vehicle on public roads.

There are different licences for different vehicles:

Make an appointment as soon as possible! Schedules fill up very quickly, so don't delay in making an appointment for your exams so that you can take them as soon as possible. Take into account any possible failures and the validity of all your documents. Refer to the information on the examination centre websites to make an appointment:

For licence B, you must participate in first aid training (or have obtained an exemption) in order to take the risk perception test. Once you have passed your theory test, you can take the first part of the e-learning training course on the website Opens in new windowPremiers secours en route (pser.brussels).

Once you have completed the e-learning course, you can register for the in-class course. Please note: there may be a waiting period for this as well.
