Paying taxes
The following page provides information on payment deadlines and how to obtain a breakdown of your outstanding debts.
What is the payment deadline?
1. For all taxes, except property tax, road tax, and vehicle registration tax
The tax must be paid within two months starting from the seventh day following the dispatch date of the tax bill.
First reminder
If you fail to pay by the deadline, you receive a first reminder.
The amount payable on this reminder includes the amount of the unpaid or late tax, plus 20% surcharge and any interest due.
You have 30 days starting from the seventh day after the first reminder was sent to pay the tax, including the surcharge and interest due.
Second reminder
If you fail to pay by the deadline of the first reminder, you will receive a second reminder, sent by registered mail.
The amount payable on this second reminder includes the amount of the unpaid or late tax, plus 50% surcharge and any interest due.
You have 30 days from the date the second reminder was sent to pay the tax, including any surcharges and interest due.
Enforcement
If no action is taken in response to this final reminder, enforcement proceedings will be initiated by a bailiff, at the expense of the debtor.
2. For the property tax (from the 2019 tax year), the road tax and the registration tax (from the 2020 tax year)
The tax must be paid within 62 days starting from the seventh day following:
- The dispatch date of the tax bill indicated on the bill itself.
- The date on which the tax bill was made available on the Opens in new windowMyTax platform.
If you fail to pay by the deadline, Brussels Fiscality will charge late payment interest and send a reminder.
One month after the dispatch date of the reminder an enforcement order may be issued, on the basis of which enforced collection may be initiated.
