Humanitarian aid

The Government of the Brussels-Capital Region can decide to provide humanitarian aid in crisis situations. The initiative generally comes from the government member responsible for development cooperation.

The aid provided by the Region is essentially emergency aid designed to provide the fastest possible support to people affected by a crisis. This means that for the moment, the Region is not focusing on crisis prevention (“mitigation”).

Four principles must be taken into account when granting emergency humanitarian aid: humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence.
