The procedure

To report a temporary or permanent relocation to another member state, you must inform the population service of your commune. This procedure can be done online via IRISbox, by email at your commune, or in person at the counter of the commune. In the case of an email request, it is necessary to mention the duration of the absence, the intended country, and the reason for departure.

Please attach a copy of the front and back of your identity card or residence permit. This procedure is free of charge. Upon your return to Belgium, report your presence to cancel the mention of absence, a process carried out after verification by a neighbourhood agent.
