Regional Urban Development Regulations

The Regional Urban Development Regulations control the characteristics of structures and their approaches, building sites, roads and so on.

Signs and advertising

Signs and related advertising must comply with certain rules on size, projection, display height, lighting and colour set down in the RRU. These rules vary depending on the location and the sign type.

You also need planning permission to place a sign.

There are some exemptions when the placement of signs is within the prevailing urban development regulations, such as placement of:

  • event signs
  • signs outside the no-signing zone defined in the RUDR
  • signs outside a radius of 20 metres from a listed building.
