Characteristics of the Barometer

The Mobility Barometer aims to measure user satisfaction with the broader transport provision (networks for all modes of transport, timetables, rolling stock, related information, etc.) and its interaction with travel demand (congestion, journey times, traffic-related disturbances, etc.). Similar surveys were previously conducted in 2003, 2005, and 2011. With minor exceptions, the 2024 edition of the Mobility Barometer was carried out using a methodology that is similar and comparable to that of 2021.

Aims

The Barometer aims to achieve three goals, namely:

  • 🚶🏽‍♀️

    1

To determine the level of user satisfaction for each mode of transport.

  • 🏢

    2

To know the level of satisfaction of Brussels residents with their neighbourhood of residence.

  • ⚜️

    3

To know the level of user adherence to the objectives of the Regional Mobility Plan (Good Move).

Data collection and sample

After standard checks and cleaning, the results of this barometer are based on a sample of 4,645 respondents, of which 3,437 are Brussels residents (74%), 1,151 are non-Brussels Belgian residents (25%) and 57 are foreign residents (1%).

  • 74%

    3,437 Brussels residents
    out of 4,645 respondents

  • 25%

1,151 non-Brussels Belgian residents out of 4,645 respondents

  • 1%

    57 foreign residents
    out of 4,645 respondents

The results were weighted according to various socio-demographic criteria so that the sample could best represent the satisfaction of all users of the Brussels transport offer.

Respondents were invited to participate in the mobility barometer from 16 September 2024 to 31 October 2024 (self-administered online questionnaire) via several recruitment sources: a panel, a media campaign in 3 languages (FR, NL, EN) and Brussels Mobility's own communication channels.
