Bruxella 1238

This archaeological site is only open by appointment. It is the location of a Franciscan monastery founded in 1238. You can still see the foundations with several funeral vaults, one of which is most likely John I, Duke of Brabant. In the early 19th century the site was home to a butter market, which made way for the stock exchange. The remains on show in the museum were found during renovation work on the street in 1988.
