Regional elections

Regional elections are held to elect the representatives in the regional parliament.

In Brussels, this concerns the 89 seats of the Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region. Of these, 72 seats go to French speakers and 17 seats to Dutch speakers.

After the elections, the French-speaking members of the Brussels Parliament also appoint the 19 representatives for the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. The 6 Dutch-speaking Brussels representatives for the Flemish Parliament are directly elected by voters.

Members of the Brussels Parliament also sit on the Council of the French Community Commission, the Council of the Flemish Community Commission and in the United Assembly of the Common Community Commission

In Belgium, the elections of the regional parliaments, the Federal Chamber of Representatives and the European Parliament are organised simultaneously every five years
