The main tasks of the Direction de l'Urbanisme of are:

  • Ensuring the proper application of the regional planning regulations (FR/NL): the cornerstone of urban development with a human face, regulating the major aspects of daily life, including the characteristics of buildings and their approaches, housing habitability standards, building sites and roadworks
  • Checking the conformity of planning or land parcelling permission/certificates granted by the communes
  • Conducting environmental impact reports with regard to grants of planning or land parcelling permission
  • Managing urban planning violations
  • Handling appeals
  • Informing the public bodies and the general public
