Fonds de Financement de la Politique de l'Eau

The Brussels-Capital Region has established a fund to finance water policy in its territory.
The Brussels-Capital Region has established the Fonds de Financement de la Politique de l'Eau (FFPE) to a fund to finance water and sewerage policy in its territory.

The Brussels-Capital Region has decided not to resort to foreign capital to finance its water and wastewater cleaning policy. It established the Fonds de Financement de la Politique de l'Eau in 2001 to finance the purchase of the sewer of the Brussels Nord treatment station.

The fund’s resources come from the following sources:

  • Revenues from the tax on discharging wastewater
  • Co-financing from the Flemish Region
  • Unused credits allotted to Brussels water policy

The purchase of the sewer was finalised at the end of 2006. Since 2007 the FFPE is used for the annual repayments.
