Permanent representation

This Brussels Representation acts as an interface between the European institutions (including the Commission, Council, European Parliament, Committee of the Regions, Economic and Social Committee, and the European Investment Bank) and the Brussels-Capital Region.

Organisation

The Representation of the Brussels-Capital Region is under the political supervision of the minister of external relations.
From an administrative perspective, it is part of the Direction des Relations extérieures (external relations directorate) of the Brussels-Capital Region.
From a diplomatic perspective it is under the authority of the Belgian Permanent Representation at the European Union.

The Representation of the Brussels-Capital Region comprises a team responsible for European affairs and an economic advisor responsible for contacts with Brussels businesses.

Main tasks of the Representation

• Representing the Brussels-Capital Region at the European institutions
• Processing and transferring useful information, analysing draft regulations and community programmes
• Providing advice and assistance concerning the European dossiers for the Government, the Brussels Regional Public Service, supraregional bodies, businesses and inhabitants of the Brussels-Capital Region
• Creating synergy between the European policies and the international relations of the Brussels-Capital Region at both bilateral and multilateral level
• Developing relations with the other regional and national representations in Brussels
