Conseil Economique et Social de la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale (CESRBC)

The economic and social council of the Brussels-Capital Region is the Region’s main consultative body on socioeconomic matters, bringing together the social partners: employers, the self-employed, the non-profit sector and employees.
The Conseil économique et social de la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale (CESRBC, economic and social council of the Brussels-Capital Region) is the Region’s main consultative body on socioeconomic matters. It brings together the social partners: organisations representing employers, the self-employed, the non-profit sector and employees.

Studies, advice and dialogue

The CESRBC is tasked with:

  • Conducting studies and providing advice and recommendations on business and social matters in the Brussels-Capital Region. It can act on its own initiative or on the request of the Government of the Region. All preliminary drafts of Brussels orders and federal regulations relating to economic and social matters must be submitted to the CESRBC for advice and dialogue
  • Running the secretariat of the consultations of the "Comité bruxellois de concertation économique et sociale" (CBCES, Brussels economic and social dialogue committee): the CBCES was created in 1997 to organise the dialogue between the social partners and the government on the subject of regional development and planning. The CBCES helps the Government of the Region to prepare its economic and social action programme

Special tasks

The CESBRC has been given a number of special advisory tasks, which it performs in specific commissions and platforms:

  • The "Commission d'agrément des agences d’emploi privées" (commission for accreditation of private employment agencies) advises the minister of employment in his or her task of accrediting private employment agencies
  • The "Comité consultatif du commerce extérieur" (foreign trade consultative committee) issues advice on the market and export policy of the Brussels-Capital Region and foreign policy in general
  • The "Plate-forme de concertation en matière d'emploi" (platform for dialogue on employment matters) handles the mixed management of the job market in the Brussels-Capital Region
  • The "Plate-forme de concertation de l'économie sociale" (platform for dialogue in the social economy) handles the accreditation and financing of 'initiatives locales de développement de l'emploi' and 'enterprises d'insertion'
