Brussels International

Brussels International of the Ministry of the Brussels-Capital Region
Brussels International was set up to develop a coherent foreign policy at the Brussels-Capital Region. Within Brussels Regional Coordination it is tasked with coordinating the Region’s relations and representation around the world.

The activities of Brussels International are spread over four areas:

  • Relations with a network of cities and regions around the world, sometimes based on a cooperation agreement. The Brussels-Capital Region has now concluded 25 bilateral cooperation agreements
  • Relations with international networks of which the Brussels-Capital Region is a member: Eurocities, Metropolis and the Assembly of European Regions
  • Relations with other international organisations in which the Brussels-Capital Region is represented, as a federal entity: the Council of Europe, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Benelux, the United Nations, etc. others
  • Processing applications for import, export and transit licences for arms and dual-use goods, in compliance with the ethical arrangements provided for by law.
The Delegation of the Brussels-Capital Region at Belgium’s Permanent Representation at the European Union is an integral part of Brussels international.
