Inspection and Administrative Sanctions

At Brussels Planning and Heritage (formerly Brussels Urban Development), the Inspection and Administrative Sanctions unit combats infringements of the legislation in force concerning planning and heritage in the regional territory. These infringements may concern construction works, extensions, renovations, restorations or the development of setback zones for parking, as well as changes in use and the division of residences into several units.

In this context, the Inspection and Administrative Sanctions unit ensures the following missions:

  1. The implementation of inspections on site by the controller, in particular following the issue or refusal of a planning permit; following notification by a third party, an administration or the Public Prosecutors Office; under its own initiative when an infringement is suspected; with a few to issuing planning information, etc.
  2. The eventual stoppage of works and sealing of the offending property
  3. The drawing up of the statement concerning the infringement and its dispatch to the Public Prosecutors Office
  4. The eventual application of appropriate administrative sanctions via a fine (of €250 to €100,000 depending on the severity and number of infringements) and measures designed to put an end to the infringement (the payment of the fine does not cancel the obligation to put an end to the infringement).
